Scunthorpe are working on bringing their youth team closer to the first team in a bid to help produce more home-grown talent.
Manager Alan Knill wants the Iron's young players to spend more time integrating with the senior professionals to both build up a relationship and, above all, aid their development.
Matt Godden and Niall Canavan are the only outfield players in the current squad to have come up through the ranks at Glanford Park and both have little first-team experience.
Knill wants that to change and plans are already being drawn up to make that happen.
"A good youth set-up is really important and the set-up at Scunthorpe is really good and really well run," he told the Scunthorpe Telegraph. "The only problem we've seen since we've come in is that it's very separate from the first team, which is something we're going to work really hard on.
"I spoke to (youth development officer) Tony Daws and the directors last week and we're going to work hard on trying to bring the two departments a lot closer together. There's no relationship there and that's something we need to address most."
