At kick-off time Blackpool and Wigan Athleticfilled the remaining two relegation places alongside doomed West Ham United. Blackpool, Wigan and Birmingham City were all on 39 points and with only two goals difference between them. Wolverhampton Wanderers andBlackburn Rovers were both on 40 and still also very much in the mix. 4.21. The first goal in a key game comes at Old Trafford where woeful Blackpool defending allows Park Ji-sung to slip in and put United 1-0 ahead and drop Blackpool below Wigan in the "live standings". 4.22. Jason Roberts scores for Blackburn. Wolves remain 16th and above Birmingham only on goals scored. 4.39. Brett Emerton smashes in a brilliant second for Blackburn, dropping Wolves, who had won their last two games, to 17th. 4.40. Charlie Adam curves in a free kick for Blackpool against United. As it stands, Blackpool climb to 17th and safety and Wolves would go down on goals scored. 4.44. Junior Hoilett cracks a third for Blackburn and Wolves are in real trouble and booed off by their stunned fans. If Blackpool hang on for a 1-1 draw, Wolves need to score two to climb back above them. 4.45. Half-time. As it stands, with 45 minutes of the season remaining, Wolves and Wigan are in the remaining two relegation places, with Blackpool surviving on goals scored. 5.09. Roman Pavlyuchenko puts Spurs ahead four minutes into the second half to drop Birmingham into the relegation zone alongside Wigan. Wolves are safe again - on goals scored. Wolves are suddenly happy to "hang on" to a 3-0 home loss to survive. 5.17. Gary Taylor-Fletcher flicks in a near-post shot to give Blackpool a scarcely believable 2-1 lead at United and lift them to the heady heights of 16th. 5.22. Blackpool's season summed up in five minutes. Having scored a great goal their defenders fall asleep to gift an unmarked Anderson an equaliser. They remain safe though. 5.32. Jamie O'Hara scores for Wolves. It does not change the situation yet. 5.34. Nightmare for Blackpool's Ian Evatt who turns the ball into his own net to put United 3-2 ahead and drop his team back into the bottom three and put Wigan safe. 5.38 Hugo Rodallega puts Wigan ahead at Stoke and they are even "safer". Birmingham drop into the bottom three. 5.39 Craig Gardner scores for Birmingham -- they are safe and it is Wolves back in the zone alongside Blackpool. The Wolves fans chant "we only need one goal" to get the message across to their players. 5.41. It looks all over for Blackpool as Michael Owen puts United 4-2 up. 5.46. Wolves needed one goal and they get it when Stephen Hunt bends in their second to lift them above Birmingham on goals scored. 5.53. Birmingham throw everyone forward and are caught on the break by Pavlyuchenko and their relegation is confirmed. 5.55. It is all over. Blackpool and Birmingham are down.
